SERVICES AND FEES:
- I currently charge individuals $35 per hour plus out-of-pocket expenses, and I have a two hour minimum. A typical project requires a minimum of four hours of work.
I provide a detailed report and invoice of expenses incurred for photocopies, postage, the purchase of records,
such as death certificates, and for travel/if required. My hourly fee for search firms and legal research
is $50 per-hour minimum, plus expenses.
- If you have a very specific research request - for example, you wish me to find a obituary, or look up your ancestor in the census, MN vital records indexes, Civil War Rosters, Land Records, or PERSI, etc. - I can often complete several "look-ups" within the two-hour minimum. [The time a project takes depends on many factors, including the quality of your starting information, how common your surname is, etc.] You receive a professional report, and suggestions for logical next steps in your research.
- If you don't know what is possible or where to begin,
the two-hour minimum will cover a professional consultation-and result in a suggested research plan.
You must, however, be as thorough as possible in stating your request and starting information.

- If you have a large project to pursue, or you are trying to solve a difficult
research problem, I still prefer to start the work with a modest investment of 8 hours, and then you can assess the value of continuing our collaboration.
It is wise to break large projects into manageable segments; this forces both of
us to set priorities, and maintain a sharp research focus.
- I will promptly notify you of my availability, once you have submitted a written client request. I encourage you to tell me the financial limits you need to set
for this project, and I will be equally clear about the objectives and scope of the search,
as well as any anticipated delays based on record availability and/or my schedule.
